How to Select a Home Elevator for Your Metro Atlanta Residence

Families with aging or infirm family members who are experiencing accessibility challenges at home are well-advised to spend time researching every mobility option before making a decision to purchase a home elevator, vertical platform lift (VPL) or stair lift. Once you have determined which type of accessibility equipment is best suited for your home and budget, you will save time and money by comparing prices and details of specific lift or residential elevator models.

When shopping for a residential elevator for your home, it is critical to determine the weight and size of the person/equipment to be transported. The following details must also be determined:

There are three basic types of home elevators, including:

1) A two stop elevator (i.e. Savaria Telecab, wt. capacity 500 pounds, lift height 16 feet) that rides on a track supported by a load bearing wall and does not require a pit

2) A two-four stop elevator enclosed in a shaft (i.e. Savaria V1504, wt. capacity 750 pounds, lift height 23 feet)

3) A multi-stop elevator that does not require a machine room (i.e. Savaria Eclipse, wt. capacity 750 pounds, lift height 50 feet)

One final type of elevator, the Pneumatic Home Vacuum Elevator (PVE), is self supporting and uses minimal electricity as it employs gravity to descend. PVE offers three different models, ranging from single passenger to a three passenger, wheelchair-accessible model. Some of today’s popular elevator brands include Symmetry, Garaventa, Savaria, Harmar and Waupaca. (Images via Savaria Elevators)
